End of the road for dodgy Sandwell sign

An old and misleading traffic sign advertising traffic signals will be taken down.

The sign, which has been up for several years in Wednesbury advertised 'New Traffic Signals Ahead,' but a number of the letters have faded.

It will be removed by Sandwell Council, after it was flagged up on social media.

Wednesbury North councillor Elaine Costigan, who sits on Sandwell Council, said: "Sometimes the Axletree Way signs are Walsall and some are Sandwell. If I had seen it, I would have reported it.

"Axletree Way is about to be refurbished. It's fabulous. There's going to be restaurants going down there. There's going to be an Marks & Spencer outlet. There's going to be a new outlet down there. We need the signage to be right – but I think the highways department will be on the case."

The sign was pointed out by Twitter user Tom Stokes' @TravelTom account, which reports road news across the West Midlands, on Monday evening.

Sandwell Council responded yesterday on Twitter and passed it onto their highways department. @SandwellRoads tweeted: "We'll arrange to get that removed. Thanks."

Top brands will be based on the Gallagher Retail Park, near Junction 9 of the M6.

They include Currys, Oak Furnitureland, Sofology and Costa Coffee.

An M&S Food Hall will take 11,000 sq ft of the downsized Currys' unit on a 20-year lease.
