The first phase of Dudley Council's 90-space car park is near completion with the demolition of the Mahoe Centre expected to end this summer - making way for work to start on the car park.

Chiefs said the Tower Street car park will improve the street scene of Tower Street by opening up views to Baylies Hall and Dudley Castle.

Work is due to be completed in time for the Christmas rush.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: "This is fantastic news for Dudley. As part of our exciting multi-million pound investment and regeneration plans for Dudley town centre, we are continuing to find opportunities to get more spaces for parking.

"These additional spaces will be available just in time for pre-Christmas shopping.

"Our priority is to grow the economy and create new jobs in the town.

"We are responding to the needs of our visitors, residents and the business community to provide extra parking that will add to the vitality of our town."
