You are more likely to win an Olympic gold medal, be crushed by a meteorite or be killed by lightning then win the lottery.

But one lucky person from the Black Country has hit the jackpot, beating odds of several million to one to win the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker.

One problem. He or she may not know it.

The unclaimed ticket was purchased in the parliamentary constituency of West Bromwich West. The draw was on March 25 with five players holding the millionaire ticket.

But the Sandwell player has until September 21 to claim – so the search is on to find the owner of the winning ticket, with community leaders joining in.

Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Julie Webb, is urging players in the area to check and double-check their Millionaire Maker code for the chance to become an instant millionaire.

She said: "It would be a highlight of my year in office to help reunite a EuroMillions ticket worth £1,000,000 with the lucky owner and then wave them off on a trip of a lifetime.

"It's important that we get this publicised as someone in Sandwell has got a million pound ticket and included in that is a first class holiday to America which would be worth £30,000.

"I just hope they come forward. It's good to know its someone within our community that could be holding that ticket. There's been two or three winners of the lottery in the past. I think there was two in Tipton and I know there was on in Tividale so this was will make it the fourth."

Representatives from The National Lottery toured the streets of Oldbury with a giant replica of the EuroMillions ticket yesterday to refresh people's memories and get them to check their houses, cars, bags and coats to see if they have got the missing ticket.

With the help of the Mayor, Black Country folk were able to play a Lottery game of Wish You Were Here – which included guessing the names of American cities and taking selfies with giant iconic images of America.

If no-one comes forward with the winning ticket before the prize claim deadline, then the prize money, plus all the interest it has generated, will go to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

The winning Millionaire Maker code was JDG845603. It is the unique serial code printed along with every EuroMillions line.

A spokesman for The National Lottery said: "We are desperate to find this mystery ticket-holder and unite them with their winnings, this amazing prize could really make a huge difference to somebody's life.

"There's not long left so we're urging everyone who bought a ticket to check their old EuroMillions tickets again or look anywhere a missing ticket could be hiding. We have the champagne on ice and our fingers crossed that the lucky winner comes forward and claims their win."
