More Flying Scotsman tickets for visit to Severn Valley Railway available

A limited number of tickets for trains to be pulled by the Flying Scotsman on its visit to the Severn Valley Railway have become available.

They go on sale tomorrow at 9am due to the re-allocation of some pre-booked seats on selected trains.

The Flying Scotsman – the first locomotive to travel at 100mph – is coming to the SVR's Pacific Power event from September 21 to 26.

These tickets are being sold on a first come, first served basis by telephone only on 01299 401001.

The famous locomotive will be operating between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.

When 7,000 tickets first went on sale in April the website crashed within minutes.

Within six hours of going on sale, half of the tickets available were snapped up.

Eventually, tickets were only available by telephone, or by calling into the Severn Valley Railway offices in Kidderminster.

Anyone trying to visit the website to buy them was greeted with an error message instead.

People desperate to get tickets took to Severn Valley Railway's Facebook page to express their frustration at the situation.

The Severn Valley Railway is one of the first heritage lines in the country to host the Flying Scotsman following its £4.2 million renovation.

The Flying Scotsman was previously in action in Shropshire in June with big crowds turning out to watch from railway bridges, station platforms from Whitchurch in the north to Ludlow in the south as its steamed through the county.

It was originally built in Doncaster for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER), emerging from the works on 24 February 1923 and initially numbered 1472.

It was designed by Sir Nigel Gresley as part of the A1 class – the most powerful locomotives used by the railway.

By 1924, when it was selected to appear at the British Empire Exhibition in London, the loco had been renumbered 4472 – and been given the name 'Flying Scotsman' after the London to Edinburgh rail service which started daily at 10am in 1862. In 1934, the Flying Scotsman was clocked at 100mph on a special test run – officially the first locomotive in the UK to have reached that speed.
