Ann Walton, aged 79, died following the crash in Great Wyrley on Saturday morning.

Her daughter, named as Susan Walton, aged 59, is in hospital following the incident in Jones Lane, near to the junction with Jacob's Hall Lane at 8.25am.

The pair were airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Ann later died of her injuries while Susan is said to be recovering and receiving treatment in hospital.

The pair were walking their dog when the crash, involving a black Ford Focus, took place.

The 31-year-old driver, from Cannock, was uninjured while the dog was taken to nearby vets.

A statement released last night by Staffordshire Police on behalf of the Walton family read: "The family of Ann and Susan Walton would like to thank friends and family for their support at this extremely difficult time following the incident which has led to the untimely passing of their beloved Ann, a devoted and treasured mother and grandmother.

"The family wish to request that they be left in peace to grieve this tragic loss while they support Susan who remains in hospital receiving treatment following the same incident."
