Firefighters were captured on camera scaling the heights to rescue the inquisitive little kitten from outside a home in Great Barr.

The eight-week-old cat had been let out by its owners to explore on Tuesday.

But it became stuck up in the branches of the conifer in the garden of the home in Mildenhall Road.

Crews from Handsworth fire station arrived at around 4.55pm after being called in by the RSPCA.

The five-strong team worked to bring the cat down within minutes to return the pet to its delighted owners.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "It was the first time the kitten had been out on its own.

"Our crew used a nine-metre ladder to rescue the kitten and return it to its owners."
