Robbie Eves was well known among the rugby community having played at Stourbridge RFC since the age of six.

Earlier this month he married his partner, Gemma, with whom he had two young sons, Ruaridh, four, and Euan, 21 months.

His brother, Alex Eves, paid tribute to Robbie in a touching post published on Facebook.

He said: "We lost a truly great man, a devoted family man, the strongest bravest man I've ever known.

"I've always looked up to you, come to you for help and while I'll miss you I know you'll never be truly gone because you taught me so much part of me is you!

"I'm glad you got to enjoy your wedding a true lesson in love. Go in peace knowing that we'll do everything we can for Gem and the boys. I'm so proud to say you were my brother. I love you Rob, Thank you."

It was after being diagnosed earlier this year that the decision was made to bring the wedding forward, with a date having previously been set for September.

The couple were wed surrounded by friends and family in St Thomas' Church in Stourbridge, where they had lived.

During his time playing rugby, Robbie had progressed through every age level at Stourbridge RFC and was part of a successful team which won The North Midlands Cup when he was 16.

He also played for his school team, Oldswinford Hospital School, which culminated in a rugby tour of Australia in 2000.

Robbie, who later became a software engineer, continued to represent Stourbridge RFC at senior level, playing for the 1st, 2nd and Lions teams. He also played for county team, Hereford and Worcester.

Stourbridge RFC has organised a benefit match in Robbie's name taking place at Stourton Park on Friday.

Money raised will go towards a trust fund for Gemma and the boys, with leftover money to be donated to a charity of the family's wishes.

John Slim, past club president, said: "Rob leaves behind so many happy memories within the hearts of our club members and Friday's game will now become a celebration and fitting tribute to Rob's life."
