The latest online survey has been launched on proposals for the £2.5 million restoration of the park, with artist's impressions of plans.

The images show an enhanced entrance, improved bandstand, landscaping designed to improve access to the County War Memorial and a new cafe.

Already more than 200 people have commented on the sketch proposals, with 97 per cent welcoming them.

Stafford Borough Council was successful in a bid for money to have detailed plans drawn up for improvements at the park and has been consulting on latest proposals before going back to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The HLF will then make a decision whether to back the project.

Councillor Mike Smith, cabinet member for leisure at Stafford Borough Council, said: "So far there has been some really positive feedback over the plans and people are looking forward to the day when they can use the new facilities.

"Our aim is to bring back and restore historic features as well as improve the park for future generations. There's still plenty of time for people to have their say."

Improvement work will concentrate on the historical section of the park which boasts a bowling green and aviary along with historical features such as the Mottram Shelter and war memorial with the River Sow running through the centre.

An initial consultation revealed the vast majority of people supported proposals for an enhanced catering facility, better aviary and a centre for learning about horticulture, which could be used by students and other organisations.

Among the proposals are terraced seating overlooking the river and a bridge over Mill Pond, connecting the proposed cafe and Mill Walk.

The revamped park could be used for more outdoor events and a park liaison officer could be employed to work with local groups and volunteers.
