Dennis O'Regan, who has photographed stars including David Bowie and Duran Duran and displays his work in exhibitions, admitted speeding at Cannock Magistrates Court.

The 62-year-old, of Westwood Road, London, who appeared at court on Wednesday, was disqualified from driving for seven days.

He was also ordered to pay a £400 fine, £85 costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

The court heard how O'Regan, who began his career in London and pursued his passion for photography taking snaps of Bowie and Duran Duran, reached 104 miles per hour on the M6 Toll on August 15 last year.

Travelling southbound between Junction T5, for Lichfield, and T4, near Weeford, O'Regan was followed by an unmarked police vehicle after he overtook two slower moving vehicles.

Mr Philip Somarkis, representing O'Regan, said: "My client apologised to the police officers at the roadside, who explained that because of the extent of the speed, he would appear in court. My client did return to a legal driving speed a few moments after overtaking slower moving vehicles."

The court also heard how O'Regan now drives across the country displaying large prints of his photographs in various exhibitions. Most recently, he displayed prints in Norfolk.

Magistrate Mr Keith Taylor handed him a seven day driving ban after the court heard that O'Regan was reliant on his car for his work as a self-employed photographer.
