Staff at Tesco, off the Newport Road near the town centre, sported wellies and waterproof jackets as they pushed people across the car park with their shopping in wheelchairs.

The helping hand came yesterday evening after downpours fell on the area at around 3pm in the afternoon.

The gesture was well received by customers, with many posting their praise on social media.

Chris Healey, from Stafford, who lives on the Newport Road, tweeted: "#Tesco #Stafford ferrying people across the floods out front using wheelchairs. Nice one @Tesco."

Joe Titley added: "The Tesco car park has flooded so there are two members of staff with wheelchairs offering rides from the store to your car!"
