Emergency services were called to the A518 at Chartley at around 4.30pm.

The road was expected to remain closed until around 9pm tonight while specialist collision investigators examine the scene.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the road, which is near Chartley Castle.

Officers are working to inform the family of the man who died.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "On arrival, crews found a badly damaged motorcycle, one car on its side and a second with front end damage.

"Sadly, it was immediately obvious that nothing could be done to save the motorcycle rider and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

"The woman in the car on its side was helped out; she had suffered minor injuries but was taken to County Hospital in Stafford as a precaution.

"The woman in the second car was assessed by ambulance staff but was discharged at the scene."

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to call Staffordshire Police on 101.
