Walsall Manor in 1000th baby milestone

Little baby William was a VIP guest at Walsall's Midwifery Led Unit earlier this month - as he was the 1000th baby to be born at the unit.

Proud parents Stephanie and Lee Elson, from Great Wyrley, welcomed their new-born son at 00:36am, weighing just six pounds.

Gifted with a hamper of baby goodies from Walsall Healthcare's MLU, the Elson's were thrilled with the overall experience of the unit.

Mother Stephanie, aged 31, said: "When I was being assessed our midwife told us that the whole team were very excited as they were pretty certain that our baby was going to be the 1000th baby born at the unit.

"We couldn't stop laughing," added father and purchasing manager Lee.

"It's not something you expect to hear when you're wife is about to give birth. We were excited by it!"

And it was certainly a celebration when baby William was born.

"When I eventually gave birth to our baby boy, the midwives were so happy. It was lovely," said Stephanie, who is now a mother-of-three.

"Even though the birth was really quick, the short time we were there was great," said Lee.

"The whole unit was so calm and I loved the fact that I was able to get on the bed with Stephanie as she was giving birth."

The couple, who have been married for six years, said they would not hesitate in recommending the 'home from home' unit to their loved ones.

Stephanie said: "I would definitely recommend the MLU to my friends and family. The atmosphere is so relaxed."
