The West Coast Mainline was closed in both directions after the lorry crashed at around 2pm. Trains started running at reduced speeds around an hour later but lines did not fully open again until shortly before 4.30pm.

London Midland trains between Crewe and Euston (passing through Stafford and Lichfield) and Virgin's services to Euston from Glasgow, Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool (also passing through Stafford and Lichfield) were either cancelled or delayed by around 60 minutes.

Passengers affected were able to use their tickets to travel on CrossCountry services to Birmingham or Manchester.

Anyone who was delayed more than half an hour is entitled a refund through London Midland.
