Walsall's urine watch fails to flush out yobs

A frustrated Walsall businessman who set up a social media account to shame yobs who were urinating outside his premises has revealed that the problem is continuing.

Chris Norton has now called on Walsall Council to stick to its promise over patrols in the area as the 'problem isn't going away'.

Mr Norton set up the Twitter account '@UrineWatch' back in March in an attempt to shame the public urinators.

The account aimed at shaming the yobs shot to prominence after it began to post a series of images from a CCTV camera of yobs urinating in a car park of the former M Latif and Sons branch in Bradford Street.

The last time Mr Norton spoke to the Express & Star he said the problem of public urination had died down, with problem drinking now taking prominence.

But more recently he said the problem is still 'a daily occurrence'.

He tweeted: "@walsallcouncil What's happened to the patrols I was promised? The place stinks of human waste."

Before adding: "This problem isn't going away at the moment. A daily occurrence still."

He has even gone as far as suggesting that a public urinal should be put in place to stop the problems.

A total of 39 photos and videos have been posted by the account at the time of writing, featuring a range of men and women urinating up against a wall which has the word 'welcome' written across it.

All the tweets put out by the account use the apt hashtag 'walsallwee'.

The first tweet that was sent out by the account earlier this year, accompanying a picture of a male in a full grey Adidas tracksuit walking past the welcome sign, said: "They don't see the point in using toilets, and don't care who sees them peeing."

Next was a black and white image of two hooded males by the sign, with the caption: "Why pee alone when you can do it together #walsallpissers."

More recently, Mr Norton caught a National Express bus driver relieving himself at the now infamous 'Welcome' spot.

The images, which went viral, led to an investigation by the bus company into the driver.

There was also a video from the incident, which showed the male driver walking up to the spot, looking around to check no one had seen him, before spending a penny.

Express & Star readers have expressed for sympathy for Mr Norton. One said: "Disgusting spectacle, I feel sorry for Mr. Norton."
