House set on fire as attempt to smoke out wasp nest goes wrong

Firefighters from across Walsall were called to a property in Willenhall after attempts to smoke out a wasp nest went wrong.

The occupants of a property on Fletcher Road ended up setting fire to their house when tackling the wasp nest, leading to crews from Bloxwich and Willenhall fire stations being called out.

West Midlands Fire Service received reports at 6am this morning of a fire in a utility space at a property on Fletcher Road, Willenhall.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to tackle the flames which ended up causing around five per cent damage to the garage where the utility room was.

A spokesman for WMFS said: "Looks as if the family or someone there was trying to smoke a wasps next in the flat roof above a utility room.

"We were called at 6am and crews from Bloxwich and Willenhall attended. We used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire.

"It was described as a small fire which caused approximately five per cent damaged to the garage."
