Speaking to the Express & Star, she spoke of her concern for the 150 job losses and put her case forward for Government support.

"We know that we have to stop burning coal - that's the reality of the state of our climate.

"But what I would say to the government is where is the investment and support for renewable energy and particularly energy conservation.

"As for the 150 jobs, I feel very sorry for the people effected and they are obviously very worried for their future.

"But lets be creating job opportunities for insulation installers, opportunities for community schemes for solar energy.

"There is potential in just this area to create many more jobs from renewable and energy conservation if we just get consistent government policy that really delivers the kind of transition that we need."

The call comes after the Government's planning minister, Greg Clark, vowed there will be no 'unnecessary delays' in the redevelopment of Rugeley Power Station the Government's planning minister has vowed.

The Express & Star revealed on Saturday that it could be at least five years before the area is back in use again, with any demolition and decontamination works set to take three years alone.
