Tom Watson has risked the ire of Jeremy Corbyn after he was spotted tucking into a burger in a McDonalds in Dudley.

Labour's deputy leader popped into the Upper Gornal branch of the fast food giant to grab a bite with Dudley North MP Ian Austin.

It comes a week after it emerged that McDonalds had been banned from the Labour party conference over its record on zero hour contracts and workers' rights.

Mr Watson scoffed a Big Mac, while Mr Austin went for a Quarter Pounder as they took a break after door knocking around the area.

West Bromwich East MP Mr Watson said: "It will come as no surprise to any of my constituents that this was not the first time I have had a Big Mac.

"I recently got a Fitbit and I'm trying to walk 10,000 steps a day. I was pushing it a bit on Saturday so felt the need for a quick Big Mac."

Mr Austin worked at the old McDonalds on Dudley High Street for 18 months when he was studying for his A-levels.

He has been outspoken in his criticism of Mr Corbyn's decision to turn down £30,000 by refusing the firm at stand at the party's Autumn conference in Liverpool, describing the move as 'a juvenile piece of gesture politics'.

Mr Austin said: "Tom was good enough to come out and talk to residents on their doorsteps for a couple of hours and we nipped to McDonalds for a bite to eat."
