Drink-drive arrest after crash blocks M54 between Wolverhampton and Albrighton

A van driver who crashed into the central reservation of the M54 today, has been arrested for allegedly drink-driving.

The Central Motorways Policing Group say the driver blew a reading three times the national drink-drive limit.

It comes after the westbound side of the motorway was closed between junction two for Wolverhampton and junction three for Albrighton after the accident.

Emergency service were called at about 12.30pm to reports that a van had hit the central barrier.

Three fire appliances were sent from Telford Central and Wellington.

The carriageway was closed for an hour while crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service attempted to clear the scene of debris.
