Calls for a 'rethink' after travellers return to Walsall park

An 'urgent rethink' is needed after more than 20 caravans set up camp on a Walsall park just four months after being moved off the same land, a councillor has said.

Councillor Doug James said travellers who had parked up at George Rose Park in Darlaston on Thursday were causing traffic chaos around Wolverhampton Street.

Councillor James, who represents the Darlaston South ward, said: "It is time for an urgent rethink about how authorities deal with this illegal and anti-social behaviour. Blocking public highways is an offence as is criminal damage to public property. Rough Hay doesn't deserve this upheaval.

"There was traffic chaos yesterday when travellers moved their 25 caravans onto George Rose Park for the second time in the last four months. It is an injustice to the taxpaying public."

Walsall Council has issued a notice for the travellers to vacate the land.
