Six cars were ablaze with smoke and flames shooting 20 feet into the air when they reached the scene outside Unique Body Works on the Willenhall Lane Industrial Estate in Willenhall at 1.30am.

The firefighters could not prevent the burning vehicles that included two Nissan Micras, a Seat Leon, Ford Focus and a Citroen van being wrecked.

But they stopped the flames reaching six other cars and the building itself which escaped with smoke logging and damage to the outside after crews wearing breathing apparatus had used ten litres of foam to help bring the fire under control.

Watch Commander Andrew Nicholls from Bloxwich fire station said after the crews left the scene two hours later: "They did a really good job in saving the other vehicles and protecting the business itself." Inquiries are continuing into the fire which was started deliberately.
