Lesley Doram, from Lichfield, was ordered by a court to pay the sum after having unauthorised work carried out on a sycamore tree which is protected by a tree preservation order.

Mrs Doram pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined £1,500, reduced to £1,000 for an early guilty plea, as well as being ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £100 and costs to Lichfield District Council of £1,870 – a total of £2,970.

She appeared at Stafford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. Lichfield council said the case proved 'how seriously' tree preservation orders are taken.
