Wolverhampton canal death not suspicious, say police

The death of a man whose body was found in a canal in Wolverhampton is not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

A post mortem is due to take place in the coming days.

Divers used a stretcher float and other equipment to retrieve the body and a blue police tent was erected.

A total of six police vehicles, two fire technical rescue vans and a water support unit attended the incident as well as two vans from the Canal and River Trust.

Dog walkers, cyclists as well as customers from nearby builders' merchant Wickes, that backs on to the area where the body was found, were advised to take alternative routes home as police conducted their initial investigation.
