From the Gailey stretch of the road to the Three Hammers Golf Complex, motorists will have to drive at a reduced speed of 60mph, cut from 70mph.

Between Coven and the M54, drivers will have to cut their speed to 40mph.

Councillor Mark Sutton, who represents the Brewood and Coven area, said: "I have not been contacted by Highways England, who look after this section of the A449.

"Until I have their rationale explained to me I can't say whether this is good or bad news for the area."

Highways England were unavailable for comment.

The A449 has been the site of numerous crashes, including a crash between a bus and a motorcyclist earlier this month.
