Glynn Evans, 56, from Walsall Street, had a stab wound to the kidney when he was found on December 28 last year.

Unemployed Stella Downing, 37, of no fixed address and labourer Martin Stokes, 49, from St Giles Road, Willenhall, are charged with his murder.

Neither of the pair have made any indication of a plea and will return to court for a plea and case management hearing on March 23.

At a hearing at Sandwell Council House, senior coroner's investigator Bonita Poole said: "He was dead when police went round.

"Two were arrested and are due in court.

"Provisionally, the cause of death was a stab wound to the left kidney, but we are still waiting for toxicology reports."

Coroner Zafar Siddique said: "Given the circumstances, I am going to suspend the inquest pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences to the family of the late Mr Evans."
