Staffordshire Fire Service expected to up share of council tax

Staffordshire Fire Service is expected to up its share of council tax by at least 1.75 per cent.

As revealed in the Express & Star, Staffordshire County Council looks set to raise its proportion of council tax by 3.95 per cent, with Cannock District Council looking at a 1.95 per cent rise.

Stafford Borough Council and Staffordshire's Police and Crime Commissioner will be freezing their share. In a paper prepared for a full fire authority meeting later this month, it states they are working on the assumption 'the authority will increase council tax by a minimum 1.75 per cent per year up to 2019/20'. The maximum the authority could raise it to is 1.99 p er cent.

A 1.99 per cent increase would generate an extra £450,000 per year for the service.
