The Lime Kilns on Northgate, formerly known as the Struggling Monkey, is currently closed as bosses wait to see if their application to Walsall council will be approved.

They want to demolish the front and one of the side walls to create a 'more 'traditional' layout for the potential shop.

A planning statement submitted to Walsall Council said: "There are presently 47 parking spaces, the application provides 46 spaces, including two dedicated parking spaces for people with disabilities. Four cycle stands are also provided.

"The existing access points are retained, as is the service area, in the north-eastern corner of the site.

"The proposal will create approximately 30 jobs."

The application has been submitted by Stourbridge firm PJ Planning on behalf of the owners of the site, the Neil Guy Pension Fund.

A few years ago, when the pub was known as the Struggling Monkey, an illegal car wash was set up in its car park.

It was also known for its charity work having raised thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
