Woman found dead in Smethwick canal named

A woman who was found dead in a canal in Smethwick has been named by police.

The body of Shareen Liaqat, aged 20, from West Bromwich, was found in the stretch of water last Wednesday afternoon.

Police say they are continuing to treat her death as unexplained.

Results from a post mortem examination which was carried out have proved inconclusive and further tests are now required.

West Midlands Polices spokeswoman Hannah Fitzgerald said her family are being kept updated by investigating officers.

Officers were called to a stretch of the water off Roebuck Lane, near factory units and Smethwick Galton Bridge railway station, just before 3.30pm.
