CCTV on truck driver Rik Freeman's home captured the moment his Volkswagen Scirocco was set ablaze in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The hooded arsonist can be seen running away after detonating the hatchback on Willow Road shortly before 3.30am (the time on the CCTV footage is incorrect).

The glow from the flames lit up houses on the opposite side of the street.

Mr Freeman said he had been targeted by yobs two years ago, who slashed 10 sets of his and his wife Tracey's tyres.

However, after installing the CCTV around a year ago the incidents completely stopped.

That was until his daughter Demi-Leigh was woken up by a flash in the early hours of the morning.

Mr Freeman, 50, said: "My daughter heard something and saw a flash through the curtains.

"By the time I woke up whoever did it was long gone.

"We managed to get the fire just about put out before the fire services arrived."

Mr Freeman spent around £12,000 on the 65-reg Scirocco last year .

The car has now been taken away by his insurance company, but they have told Mr Freeman it looks likely to be a write-off.

Part-time photographer Mr Freeman's family have lived in Willow Road for nearly 25 years - after moving into one property in 1991 then moving 100 yards up the road to his current home three years later.

"You just worry what's next," he said.

"Next time something might be stuffed through the letter box."

West Midlands Police spokesman Lee Page said: "We were told by the fire service there was a car fire in Willow Road at around 3,30am.

"A black Volkswagen Scirocco was on fire, and the fire services told us it had been covered in petrol.

"It is being treated as arson and we are investigating."
