Who will win Celebrity Big Brother 2016?

Published

Celebrity Big Brother 2016 has only just started but we think we might already have worked out how it will finish. In true house style, we've set ourselves the task of investigating who has the best chance of triumphing on this year's show.

We won't earn a life of luxury or have to live on basic rations if we get it right or wrong.

But we reckon our prediction could be spot on, based on the current line-up and how things have unfolded in the past.

So, sit back as we take over the mic and beg you not to swear as we reveal who we estimate will win.

Do boys or girls have a better chance?

Male housemates are almost twice as likely to be crowned winner of Celebrity Big Brother.

There have been 16 previous seasons of the reality show, with 10 guys winning and just six girls.

The first three were all won by gents: comic Jack Dee, Take That's Mark Owen and Happy Mondays' star Bez.

Are younger or older housemates more likely to triumph?

The average winner's age is 39, although that has been bumped up by recent champs Jim Davidson (60) and Gary Busey (70) - the show's oldest ever winner back in 2014.

Chantelle Houghton became the youngest ever winner, aged 22, when she won in 2006 having entered the house as a secret 'non-celebrity'.

The average male winner is 48, while females are younger at 34. Looking at this year's stars, Darren Day is closest at 47 and for the girls Tiffany Pollard is 34.

Which professions prosper in the house?

Finding fame through reality TV is the most popular route to CBB glory with one in three previous winners owing their celebrity to the genre.

The only problem with this year's housemates is all but two have appeared on or been a judge on a reality TV show of some sort.

Just Angie Bowie and Winston McKenzie were reality TV virgins, so that might explain why Winston has already been evicted. He really didn't get that saying outrageous things about his fellow housemates might just get him the boot.

Of all the housemates, David Gest has appeared on the most reality TV shows which could give him an edge, from This Is David Gest (intro clip above) and Soapstar Superstar to Come Dine With me and Grease Is The Word.

Who do the bookies fancy?

Geordie Shore beefcake Scott Timlin - better known as Scotty T - is the favourite to win this year's show with Ladbrokes at 3/1, ahead of actor John Partridge at 7/2.

Actor and presenter Darren Day is third favourite at 5/1.

TOWIE's Gemma Collins is the favourite female at 6/1, followed by Daniella Westbrook at 10/1.

Ex-Hollyoaks star Stephanie David had been the female favourite following launch night but has drifted to 50/1 - putting her joint bottom of the would-be winners list.

Who are the public searching for the most?

Darren Day has actually been the most searched star of this year's celebrities on average - although Scotty T hasn't been far behind.

As our Google trends chart of searches over the past week reveal, Darren has just pipped Scotty to the top spot and continues to do so.

News of Darren's inclusion also resulted in the biggest peak of any of the celebrity names when it was revealed.

But will his popularity last? He's certainly making an impact on the viewers at home...

Who has the biggest social following?

Once again, Scotty slams the competition. He has 1.2 million Twitter fans, which dwarfs his closest rivals. Both Steph and John have just 80,000 each.

David Gest doesn't actually have an official Twitter account but regularly tours the UK fronting live theatre shows, so he has a decent fan base.

Gemma Collins is hot on Scotty's heels with 1.11 million followers of her own thanks to appearances on TOWIE and a brief stint on I'm A Celebrity.

Kristina Rhianoff has 136k followers, Megan McKenna has 99k and Christopher Maloney has 148k. Darren Day's official Twitter account has just 2,401 followers.

Can being American go against you?

There has only ever been one American winner of Celebrity Big Brother - and even he wasn't that liked in the house.

Actor Gary Busey might have eventually won the show in 2014 but he clocked up a record-breaking 24 nominations along the way.

Fellow Americans Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt above, also hold a record in the hall of shame after recording the most nominations in a single week with 10.

This could well go against David...

So the winner of Celebrity Big Brother 2016 will be...

Whyaye, man! Congratulations to Geordie Shore's Scotty T! Let's get mortal!

By our estimation, he's set to join the ranks of Ant and Dec, Gazza and Cheryl as one of the nation's most popular Toon celebrities.

Scotty has the biggest social following, he's funny, popular with the ladies, the bookies' favourite and he's in the top two for search.

He's a bit younger than the average male winner at 27 but he boasts a reality TV pedigree which will help his cause. Oh, and he isn't American...

We reckon the smart money for runner-up is on Darren, who is flying high on Google and is bang on when it comes to the average age of winners.

Why rely on estimates when you can get the facts...

We can crunch numbers all we want, but estimation is no substitute for the facts.

Whether it's trying to predict a winner of Celebrity Big Brother or attempting to calculate an energy bill, if you're relying on an estimate you won't get an accurate result.

With a smart meter you won't have to rely on estimated bills or submit meter readings manually any more.

Every home in Britain will be able to get a smart meter by 2020 at no extra cost. Just contact your energy supplier to find out when you can get yours.

You will be able to see what you're spending on energy in near real time, and only pay for the gas and electricity you actually use.
