Unconscious pensioner rescued from smoke-filled Staffordshire home

Firefighters rescued an elderly woman after finding her unconscious on the floor of her smoke-filled home today.

Crews were called to the property in Cedar Avenue, Brownhills, at 11.42am after the alarm was raised.

They discovered the pensioner slumped on the kitchen floor after falling, suffering from the effects of smoke.

She was carried out by firefighters and given oxygen therapy before being taken to Walsall Manor Hospital for further treatment.

It is believed the fire was caused by a hotwater bottle being left on the electric hob.

West Midlands Fire control operator Jez Amos said it was not believed she was badly hurt.

Crews from Walsall, Aldridge and Chasetown attended the scene.
