The Baggies have donated a signed football which will be used to raise funds for the appeal helping poorly children and families who face a bleak Christmas due to the heavy Caparo redundancies.

Our appeal has already had tremendous backing from readers, local businesses and clubs, and such big names as the Chuckle Brothers and Wolves legend Steve Bull.

Albion's donation will help us to support a host of causes including ill children at hospitals across the Black Country and the Caparo workers amid the steel crisis.

We want to bring some Christmas cheer to as many youngsters as possible this year.

On behalf of Albion, head coach Tony Pulis said they were delighted be getting on board the campaign.

"It's a great idea by the Express and Star and at Albion we're delighted to support it, he said.

Express & Star deputy editor Diane Davies said: "We are delighted that all of our local football clubs are backing our toy appeal. We have been overwhelmed by the initial support we have had from the community as a whole and really believe we will be able to bring a little bit of Christmas magic to many children this year.

"But we do need the toys to keep coming if we are to do that. If we all donate just one present it will make a huge difference to one little boy or girl this Christmas."

The appeal, which is approaching it's third week since the launch, has seen the Express & Star team up with local business Storage King, with branches across the Black Country.

A wave of toy donations of all shapes and sizes have already come in from our readers across the Black Country.

But we are still appealing for toys and gifts for youngsters of ages from babies to young adults. The gifts must be new but unwrapped so that the charities are able to select the right gift to fit the recipient.

Drop-off bins have been set up at the Express & Star's offices in Wolverhampton and Storage King depots in Station Street in Walsall, Unit 8 Ionic Park in Birmingham New Road, Dudley and 133 Birmingham Road, West Bromwich. They can also be taken to Toys R Us in Oldbury.
