The council is extending its scheme already in place in six locations and that sees motorists face £60 fines if they drive in bus lanes.

The new cameras will be put in place at Pipers Row between Berry Street and Railway Drive, Market Street between Bilston Street and Tower Street and Stafford Street between Fox's Lane and Cannock Road.

The cameras will be installed on Monday, with drivers issued warning notices until enforcement starts on January 4.

Since the cameras were installed, there has been a big drop in the amount of offences taking place.

Deputy council leader Councillor Peter Bilson

In June, the cameras caught 11,198 motorists illegally driving in bus lanes, but that figure fell to just 3,319 in October.

Deputy council leader Councillor Peter Bilson, said: "If you don't break the law, you won't get a ticket. It is a very simple message."

The £60 fines are reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days.
