Murder inquiry launched as man dies following Oldbury charity event attack

A murder inquiry has been launched after a man died following an assault at a charity event being held at a banqueting suite in Oldbury.

The 49-year-old was left with serious head injuries after an the alleged attack at Samsons Banqueting Suite in Rood End Road just before 2am on Sunday morning.

He was was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died of his injuries yesterday.

A post mortem was taking place today.

Two men were arrested yesterday evening and remained in custody today.

Detective Inspector Martin Slevin, from Force CID, said: "Our investigation is at an early stage and forensic experts have examined the scene. My officers are now looking at CCTV and taking witness statements.

"I would like to appeal for anyone who saw what happened and hasn't spoken to a police officer to contact my team on 101."

Local officers have been in the area on patrol over the weekend and will remain there as the investigation continues.
