Families left out of pocket after the sudden closure of a children's shop in Walsall have been warned they may not get their money back.

A meeting has been called between creditors after Kiddisave shut and went into liquidation.

The site in Green Lane, Walsall, shut suddenly on Wednesday after trading since 1998.

Families have been left trying to get back hundreds of pounds they spent on goods from the shop that they have not received.

A statement issued by Kay Possart of Mayfield Insolvency Practicioners reads: "Mayfields have been instructed to assist the directors to call a meeting of creditors, the meeting is to be held on December 3.

"We have a full list from Kiddisave Ltd of the names and addresses of all of the people who have paid money and not received their goods.

"We don't yet know the value of the company's assets and so we can't say at this stage whether there will be money paid back to creditors.

"If there is, it will be a quite a good while before it is paid out and I don't want to give your false hope in case there is no money to come back.

"We have not yet been appointed liquidator, but if we are, we will let you know in writing as the liquidation progresses over the months as regards whether or not you will receive any money back."

The company supplied a range of baby products and accessories including prams, pushchairs, nursery furniture, car seats, baby cots, baby clothing, feeding, safety equipment and toys across Europe.

Walsall Council said that its trading standards department had received numerous calls from concerned customers in the aftermath of the shop closing down.

Last week, the Express & Star revealed that Simon Cox, aged 32, whose partner, Jessica Russon, 23, is six months pregnant, had paid £500 in cash for a new Cosatto pram back in October.

Mr Cox, of Churchill Road, Walsall, said: "In my case, I have been interacting with Cosatto, so there may be a chance I will get my pram.

"We can't afford another pram, we had to save up to purchase this one.

"This latest statement is a major blow for people in a similar situation to us.

"I feel we have been hard done by, but it could be so much worse.

"As a company, they must have known their financial situation long before they closed, so it is worrying that we are now hearing some people may not get anything back."
