Petition demands Sandwell Valley parking fee U-turn

A petition calling for controversial new parking charges at Sandwell Valley to be scrapped has been handed in to council bosses.

A decision to charge motorists to park at the beauty spot for the first time has attracted a public backlash, with 120 people putting their names to a petition in the space of just a week. Sandwell Council has said the charges are necessary to ensure funds can be generated for the upkeep of the park but campaigners have dubbed the change as a tax on going to the park and they are hoping for a u-turnThe authority's cabinet petitions committee will now consider whether to reverse the move.

A final decision is expected to be made in the next four weeks.
