Birmingham shooting: Murder inquiry launched after man dies

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following a shooting in Birmingham.

Police were called to the shooting in Soho Hill, Hockley, at around 4.30am today.

Two men were injured in incident. One of the men, yet to be identified, remains in a critical condition after being found in the road in Soho Hill.

The other, a 25-year-old from Handsworth, presented himself at hospital after the shooting but was later pronounced dead.

Police have now launched a murder inquiry.

A vehicle used to drop the fatally injured man in hospital has been recovered by police and Soho Hill has been sealed off while detectives and forensics examine the scene.

Detective Chief inspector Caroline Marsh from West Midlands Police said: "We are embarking on an extensive CCTV trawl of the area and there is lots of intelligence work going on behind the scenes in a bid to try and understand what may lie behind the shooting."

Plans are in place to increase police patrols around Handsworth and Hockley over the weekend.
