Rowley Owls Nursery scraps cuts after petition

Nursery bosses have scrapped plans to cut opening times and reduce the number of children it looks after.

Rowley Owls Nursery, run by neighbouring Rowley Hall Primary, launched a consultation on proposals to open for fewer hours and only take children aged two and above.

Dozens of parents signed a petition opposing the plans – and now they have been dropped by bosses.

The school said the proposals were intended to 'improve standards' at the nursery but they backtracked after overwhelming positive feedback from parents. One parent, 32-year-old Sarah Turbutt, said she was delighted. Her 14-month-old son Arley currently attends the nursery, while four-year-old Noah has just started at Rowley Hall Primary from the nursery.

Mrs Turbutt, who lives in Rowley Regis, said: "This is great news. Arley loves it at the nursery and he's treated like part of the family.

The consultation came just weeks after the nursery was given a requires improvement Ofsted report.

Nicola Stanley, headteacher at Rowley Hall Primary said:

"It seems parents and children really love the nursery as it is. Ofsted have recognised we are improving but we still have some way to go."
