The Monarch Airlines flight, carrying around 190 passengers, made the emergency landing this morning after a passenger became unwell.

Flight ZB970 left Birmingham International Airport at 7am and was due to land in Spain at 10am, however, the flight was diverted to Gatwick after the passenger became ill.

The plane's flight path shows it was travelling over France when it returned to the UK.

James Bovill, who was on the diverted plane, reported on Twitter that the sick passenger was given oxygen and that a doctor on board was helping.

Paramedics boarded the plane when it landed at Gatwick.
