Rallying call in protest to Staffordshire block homes

A rallying call has been made by MP Gavin Williamson in the battle to block a plan to build 136 homes on prized green belt land in Great Wyrley.

The South Staffordshire MP has organised a summit meeting with residents to fight the move and help distribute campaign material to thousands of homes.

Villagers in both Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay – the proposed development off Landywood Lane lies between the two – are being asked to help boost a petition, which already has more than 2,000 signatures.

The session will be held at Landywood Primary School next Saturday from 10.30am.

The register of names will be presented in the House of Commons, as well as sent to South Staffordshire Council.

Similar proposals for the same plot of land were rejected in 2013 after Mr Williamson got behind the protest.

Today he said: "I am deeply disappointed and concerned that these rehashed proposals have been resubmitted.

"Residents have rejected them once and I intend to fight as hard as I did before to ensure that they are rejected once more. This development is not wanted or needed."
