The man, 30, from Wolverhampton, handed himself in to officers at Wolverhampton Police Station this afternoon after police released images of a wanted suspect.

He has been released on bail until October 17, pending further inquiries.

The alleged assault took place at 6.30pm on September 1 at the St Lawrence Way store.

Police said a shoplifter was being 'reprimanded' by security staff for allegedly trying to steal alcohol when he pierced the guard's arm with the needle.

It is not clear if the guard has suffered any lasting effects.
