Driver trapped for 45 minutes and cut free from car in Sandwell smash

A woman was cut free from her car after being trapped inside it for 45 minutes after it crashed into a tree and rolled over in Sandwell.

The smash happened in Island Road near to Sandwell Recreation Ground shortly before 9.20pm last night.

Jamie Arrowsmith, a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: "Crews arrived to a find a car that had rolled following a collision with a tree.

"The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, was suffering from a reduced level of consciousness and was trapped inside the vehicle.

"Ambulance staff monitored and treated her whilst the fire service carefully freed her from the car, a process which took approximately 45 minutes.

"The woman did not appear to have suffered any external injuries but following a full assessment was transported to Sandwell General Hospital for further treatment."
