Calls for CCTV after another Moxley fire

A call has been made to bring back CCTV cameras on waste land targeted by flytippers and arsonists following another fire.

Vandals set light to dozens of tyres on waste land off Bull Lane, Moxley, on Sunday for the third time in less than a month.

Councillors Paul and Chris Bott, who represent the area, said problems had resurfaced since CCTV cameras were removed.

The security device had all but stopped the practice but the camera was taken down about 18 months ago.

The land, the site of the former Wesson factory, has recently changed hands and a planning application for warehouses is due to be submitted.

Mrs Bott said: "The site needs a security fence erected all around it by the new owners.

"The fly-tippers are not even discreet these days. The attack at the weekend happened in broad daylight.

"The CCTV cameras that were put up about three years ago stopped all the fly-tipping and fires but the road has become a regular target again."

She said she contacted officers at Walsall Council yesterday to see if the site could be secured.

Vandals set fire to 30 tyres at the same spot three weeks ago and also on September 6 when 40 to 50 tyres were ignited.

The Moxley And Dangerfield Action Group, which works with councillors to improve the area, is urging witnesses to the latest fire to contact police.
