Officials at the firm said they were looking to take on 36 people to work at offices in Providence Place, West Bromwich.

All of the positions have been created at the office's customer services department.

A banner has been put up outside the firm advertising the new posts and urging people interested in applying for one of the posts to get in touch.

It has been placed facing the ring road so as many people can see it as possible.

Bosses at the firm said the extra staff were needed to cover busy periods and improve the service it offered to customers.

The drive is being carried out by recruitment firm Manpower on behalf of the telecommunications company.

Bosses said all of the jobs were permanent which would be a boost to the economy of Sandwell as a whole.

BT Spokesman Emma Tennant confirmed the recruitment scheme had been launched.

She said the firm was looking to fill the available posts over a phased period of time.

"I can confirm BT is recruiting jobs at the firm's site in Sandwell," she said.

"It is a very important office for the company and obviously gets very busy at certain times which has prompted the decision to create these new positions.

"The aim of these new posts is to improve the service offered by the company to its customers.

"The organisation is looking for people who are passionate about customer service and who are good communicators.

"The roles are permanent so this is good for the borough."

She said the company is expecting a lot of interest from people in taking up roles with the company.

"The recruitment is still open at the moment and we are confident all of the roles will be filled," she added.

People who are interested in the jobs can apply for positions through the Manpower website.

Officials at the firm said successful applicants would have the responsibility of answering calls from customers and dealing with any queries or enquiries they may have.

BT opened its office at Providence Place in 2012. The complex took nine months of work to complete.

It was designed to be a flagship for environmentally sustainable regeneration and was the first new development to be created in West Bromwich for more than 30 years.

Since its opening it has become one of the best-known buildings in West Bromwich.
