Rugeley cat shot by air rifle

A cat was shot by an air rifle in Rugeley, prompting an appeal from the RSPCA.

Vets said the eight-year-old male ginger cat was in severe pain after a being wounded in the abdomen with a pellet which got lodged deep in the skin of his pelvis.

Its owner found him near Mill Way on September 24.

RSPCA inspector Kate Levesley said: "Due to the pellet being lodged deep into his skin, this cat could have been shot with a high-powered rifle. He would have suffered a great deal of pain and would have been very distressed.

"This is a very upsetting time for the cat's owners, who think the world of their pet.

"It is simply not acceptable to treat animals in this way."

The cat has now been discharged from vets.
