The shocking moment a reckless driver failed to stop after smashing into a parked car has been caught on camera.

Footage shows what appears to be a silver Rover crashing into a stationary Fiat Punto with such force it rides up onto its roof.

The car almost ends up on its side but is brought back onto four wheels.

Rather than stopping to assess the damage and alert the owner of the Punto, the driver stops only momentarily before speeding off down the road.

The ugly incident was caught on camera by the Punto's owner, Charlotte Maher-Butler, who has a camera installed at the front of her property in Brownswall Road, Sedgley.

The 30-year-old had been tending to her seven-month-old daughter and was unaware of the smash until a neighbour knocked her door to report the damage.

She said: "I went down the drive and saw what had happened to my car. I could not believe it.

"The thing is we got broken into four weeks ago so it just feels like one thing after another.

"I am gutted really because the least someone does is stop and knock the door. What scares me the most is that I am going back to work soon and that will be the time when I will be going out with my daughter.

"It doesn't bare thinking about what could have happened had we been getting into the car."

The crash happened at around 8am on Thursday. Mrs Maher-Butler added she had only had the Punto for two weeks and had only lived at the address for six months.

She reported the incident to police but was told they would not be able to help without an independent witness or the vehicle registration, which is not visible on the video.

The car has been left with buckled wheels and doors which do not open - and Mrs Maher-Butler has been left furious.

"It is not as if it was the middle of the night," she added. "This was at 8am in the morning.

"In Brownswall Road there is a school at the top and so many people walk up and down.

"Really I am glad she only hit my car and not someone. The way the person is driving is very dangerous. They are clearly not paying attention."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101.
