'Heartless!' - Bathroom suite among dumped rubbish outside Walsall crematorium

A bath tub, toilet seat and chipboard doors – this is just some of the waste dumped on the roadside in Walsall, outside a crematorium.

The trail of household rubbish was left scattered on the grass and pavement in Little Hardwick Road, near Streetly Crematorium, this week.

It was reported to Walsall Council by a passing motorist and a member of staff.

Officers, who picked it up yesterday, have launched an appeal to find out who left the rubbish. The council has warned that the culprits will be prosecuted. Last week, the Express & Star revealed the council forked out almost £250,000 in clearing up mess in just 12 months. This followed more than 3,300 reports in 2014/15.

Councillor Louise Harrison, portfolio holder for environment said: "The fact that this was dumped outside the crematorium is completely heartless.

"Some of these items may have been collected from a house clearance and then dumped illegally on the side of the road.

"We hope someone may spot and recognise some of these more distinctive objects, the blue bathroom suite and a Baloo teddy bear for example."

The council believes someone has information on the person who dumped the rubbish.

Councillor Harrison added: "The council is after the people or the person who dumped this waste, not the resident who may know where this came from. What is evident is that there are some people in society who are completely selfish and must be stopped.

"My message to everyone who cares about the borough is don't let them get away with it.

"Fly-tipping is on the rise and we have to put a stop to it."
