Thousands of people will take to the city's streets tomorrow as the 26.2 mile route starts and finishes at West Park and will take in Tettenhall Road, Codsall Road, and Newhampton Road West.

Race director Mary Harding, said: "The numbers are still up on last year which is good news and with late entries available in West Park on Saturday from 10am until 5pm we should exceed last year's figures.

"We cannot take any entries on race Sunday as we have chip timing and there would be no time to input information."

In addition to the marathon, people can also take part in a half marathon, the Banks's 10km run, the Cousins 20k cycle.

Youngsters can also join in the fun with the children's mini marathon, while for the first time this year the Call Print 3k walk has also been added.

This is aimed at getting spectators and families to take part in a gentle walk around West Park while the main events are happening out on the roads.

The walk starts at 10.15am and is priced £5 for over 16s. Children are encouraged to walk for free. All walkers will get a medal and a goody bag.

There will be several events this year, including a walk at West Park

Among those supporting this year's event, which is in its 18th year, is Wolves legend Steve Bull who will be taking on the 20k ride.

Henry Carver, whose father Roy started the event almost 20 years ago, said he was 'delighted' that Carvers were the main sponsors again for this year's event.

"The events have gone from strength to strength and we are very pleased to be associated with such a major sporting event in Wolverhampton.

"Year on year the events encourage so many participants, which generates a fantastic atmosphere in West Park and out on the course, where we always get amazing support."

Money raised from the event, which has raised more than £320,000 in its history, will go to three main charities - Beacon Centre for the Blind, Samaritans of Wolverhampton and Compton Hospice.

Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Ian Brookfield added: "To all participants, be they runners, cyclists or wheelchair entrants - I thank you on behalf of the many thousands of people less fortunate than ourselves who will benefit from the funds raised."

Organisers are also after help with water stations. A packed lunch will be supplied and anyone interesting in helping should call Mary Harding on 07809 645790.
