A mother who was told it is a miracle she is still alive is to renew her marriage vows later this month – with her honeymoon all paid for by a travel company.

Self-employed DJ Claire Peters, aged 42, from Walsall Wood, was devastated when she was diagnosed with ovarian teratoma – a rare form of cancer – in September last year.

Her story has been followed by well-wishers on Facebook and even prompted a phone call from This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield, who rang to chat while Claire was in hospital receiving treatment.

Her condition meant Claire, a mother of three, had to have three major operations and is currently receiving chemotherapy.

Earlier this year Claire and her husband Ian decided to renew their wedding vows to have something to look forward to.

The couple will tie the knot for a second time on Friday, September 18, having been married since July 1999.

And staff at the Brownhills High Street Thomas Cook branch – which Claire visits every year to book a holiday for her family – were left so touched by her story they decided to buy a honeymoon for her.

Claire and Ian will spend four nights in Bude near Cornwall – paid for by the holiday company – after their special day.

Claire said: "Doctors have told me I'm a miracle for still being here and I could have died at least 10 times before.

"But I'm still here and I'm not planning to go anywhere.

"It's been a difficult time and I chose a piece of music I wanted to be played at my funeral and it cut my husband to pieces."

"He said: 'I don't want it for a sad time I want it for a happy time'.

"I then said 'what you saying' and he said 'will you marry me again' and I replied 'of course I will'.

"We had a little look at holidays and I couldn't believe it when Thomas Cook phoned me up to say we'll pay for your honeymoon. It was unbelievable."

Thousands of people have been able to follow Claire's journey online with emotional posts and videos of her after treatment on her Facebook page.

And TV star Phillip's call was a huge morale boost.

"I was in hospital and out of the blue had a phone call and found out it was Phil Schofield," Claire said.

"I was chatting to him for about half an hour on the phone, just general chit chat like you do with your family. He's contacted me direct on Facebook too. He's such a lovely man." Catherine Finlan, customer manager at the Thomas Cook branch, said: "It just felt only right to give Claire a honeymoon which she could enjoy.

"Claire is a big part of the community and that's why we felt we had to donate the honeymoon.

"She has touched so many hearts. We just wanted to give her something she could enjoy and take her mind off the treatment."

Claire, who has three sons Liam 24, Kyle, 20 and Drew 16, said she is due another big operation in London in January and hopes for a happy future.

"I still hope to be here when I'm 90 odd. I don't want to go just yet. I just hope my health gets better and hope all my family remain healthy. That's all I hope for. Since I've been diagnosed I've found it is the little things that matter the most. We've still got lists to write.

"Usually people have their months or years to plan their wedding but mine has come like 'whoosh' and we've got literally three weeks left to make sure everything is right.

"I've only been to Cornwall once so I'm really excited. It will be great to go on the beach and have a bag of chips."
