A far-right protest in Dudley planned for next weekend has been called off, it has emerged.

All Football Fans/Firms March Against Islamisation (AFFFMAI) descended on the town in June.

Since then the group has changed its name to United Against Islamisation and members had planned to return for a second march on September 12.

But organiser Kevin Smith said today it would now be protesting elsewhere on that date, before adding the group will return to Dudley later in the year.

Around 200 members of AFFFMAI took part in the group's first protest against plans to build a new mosque in the town.

Carrying English, Welsh and Union Flags, they chanted 'these streets are ours' and 'England Till I Die'. It was a largely peaceful event with just one arrest made.

Meanwhile, plans for a 'unity' event to deter far-right protestors from coming to Dudley is expected to still go-ahead on September 19.

In August it was revealed police have spent £414,700 on managing far-right marches in Dudley this year, with almost £60,000 spent on the protest by AFFFMAI in June.

A march by Britain First in May cost the force £33,800 with the majority of money spent on paying officers' overtime.
