Around 20 traders set up in the town from Thursday to today as part of the Darlaston By The Sea event which saw a range of activities on offer.

Darlaston Market is due to permanently return in King Street for three days a week.

The market has been absent for four years but will be back three days a week from September 14.

In a bid to show customers what they can expect in a few weeks time the stalls were put up during the event which also had face painting, entertainment and a stilt walker.

Bescot Promotions is running the new-look Darlaston Market on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is to feature everything from clothes, toys and handbags.

Manager David Habernathy said there had been a positive reaction.

He said: "It gave a taste of what to expect.

"We try and keep it as individual as possible we try not to put two of the same stall on.

"The traders didn't know what to expect, they have been happy.

"The locals seemed to be buzzing about it too.

"They really seemed up for it, it brings a bit of life back to the town."

Bescot Promotions also operate the popular Sunday pitch outside the Banks's Stadium.

The previous council-run event in Darlaston was scrapped four years ago due to budget cuts.

Plans to bring back the market were approved by council cabinet members earlier this year for an initial 24 months.

The council-run pitch was axed in 2011 to save £60,000 over three years.

The market in Brownhills also closed but the site is now due to become homes as one part of a double scheme for a combined 200 properties off Silver Street.

Darlaston will complement the council markets at Walsall, Bloxwich and Willenhall. There are £1.75 million plans to create a new-look permanent market around The Bridge in Walsall.
